Astrological Factors in US Elections: Mercury Retrograde

Apparently I am not the only one who thinks this election may be messy. Two good astrologers have  this to say about November 7th elections:

“…let me explore some crucial features of Election Day itself. On 6 November at 18:05 EST/15:05 PST, Mercury turns retrograde. A retrograde Mercury is an annoyance when it comes to travel and communications in general but its role in a general election is pivotal. While many voters will make their choice before Mercury technically turns retrograde, that it is stationary and poised to make a reverse thrust, will have a significant bearing on the election.

To give you an example. On 6 May, 2010, Great Britain held a general election. Mercury was retrograde. The result was a hung parliament: neither of the two main parties had enough votes to form a government. It took another six days and Mercury’s turning direct before the coalition government could be officially formed.

Rather more pertinently, the US election of 2000 when Mercury was also in retrograde produced one of the most disputed results in American electoral history. This was the election which brought George Bush into the White House and a new term into the American vocabulary – the hanging chad. It took 24 hours and Mercury’s turning direct before Al Gore acknowledged defeat.

In simple terms, and in keeping with a stationary retrograde Mercury, we could say the result of the forthcoming US election will prove to be a backwards step. It is unlikely to mean that the country will have to wait until 26 November and Mercury to turn direct to get a result. The most probable scenario is that of many recounts and challenges in the days following the election. And when the victor emerges it will be in the certain knowledge that half the country doesn’t want him.”

So we may be in for a long hard ride but the biggest issue will be Mother Nature, the New York fault line and repressed rage, none of which will be in  the “regular” news…but may determine the future of this country. The future is elastic and plastic but there are too many unseen elements in place that make for  interesting and difficult times.

And Susan Miller weights in http://www.astrologyzone.com/forecasts/monthly/cancer_full.php

“Again we will have a very close election, so be sure to vote, as your voice will be heard. That year, 2000, when we had election Day, Mercury was turning direct that night. As you see, it was going in the right direction, not like this year, when it will be going in the very wrong direction, backward. Theoretically, in 2000 one would have assumed only a small problem, but I have always said Mercury is at its worst at the front and back end of the retrograde. I feel this will make the whole voting process harder, and due to the hurricane on the East Coast, they may have to delay election day as so many counties have no electrical power. The only saving grace is that many states have allowed people to vote early, and many voters have taken advantage of that option, in large numbers, so that might be a mitigating factor to Mercury retrograde.

However, on November 6, the very date when Mercury turns retrograde, Mercury will also be in hard aspect to Neptune. This takes the confusion of Mercury retrograde and multiplies it by three. This suggests the presidential election may have to be delayed or postponed or, if it does take place, there will be massive problems with broken machines and may again go to the Supreme Court to sort out the winner.”

Post note November 21, 2012: It has been a mess. It was noted in the news that every state of the “union” had petitions in the courts to sucede from the “union” and the soul searching and brow beating and threats have still not stopped!
